On September 10, Janie Hinton, RN, BSN, Southern Regional Medical Center’s Director of Nursing, was honored as a recipient of the Healthcare Warrior Award – an award presented by the Clayton County Chamber of Commerce during their annual Valor Award celebration.

The Healthcare Warrior Award was new to the Chamber’s award selection. It honored a public health or healthcare individual who demonstrated, integrity, sacrifice, and endurance specifically related to the recent COVID-19 pandemic. Criteria for the award focused on someone who demonstrate superior communication skills, excellent bedside manners and etiquette, and stood out as a leader under pressure, all while maintaining a professional demeanor throughout this crisis.

“Janie amazes with her resilience. She can be talking to a patient, lead a committee meeting, and then interact with administration, and not miss a beat. She is the chameleon, not in changing her color or principles, but in her ability to adapt,” states Charlotte W. Dupré, President and CEO of Southern Regional Medical Center. “She is an example worthy of following. Janie is beyond a ‘Jack of all trades’ and does it all flawlessly without complaint. She has earned the respect and dedication of nursing, medical, and executive staff because of her integrity, credibility and skill set as a leader.”

Hinton has been a dedicated Southern Regional employee for nearly 35 years and was named to the position of Director of Nursing in 2016 after many years in a variety of clinical leadership roles. She began her tenure at the hospital as a Laboratory Technician and continued to develop her passion to hone her clinical and professional expertise. Hinton went on to earn her BS in Nursing from Columbus State University becoming a Registered Nurse and moving on to work in a multitude of clinical units. She was promoted into her first leadership position in 1999.

“It was clear when this award was announced that Janie Hinton would be an exceptional recipient. She is a true asset to Southern Regional and an example to all of us on what compassionate healthcare should be,” added Dupré.
