As part of a Juneteenth celebration, Southern Regional Medical Center is hosting an exhibit by local artist and photographer, Tony Smart. A selection of his work will be on display in the hospital’s Georgia Room in the Magnolia Café from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Monday, June 19.
Tony Smart’s love for art and photography began at the age of seven and has been his life’s journey ever since. With a BFA in Fine Arts from Georgia State University, Smart has focused his art on the interaction of the African American experience and its legacy in America. Smart explains, “In my work, I seek to have a conversation about the duality of what it means to be African and what it means to be African American. I attempt to explore this from numerous angles and perspectives with the hope of providing a springboard for broader interaction about the past, present and future of our race.”
