Southern Regional Medical Center is pleased to announce the official re-opening of The Center for Bariatrics and Healthy Weight on the Ground Floor of the Women’s Center on June 1. The Center’s focus is on providing patients with comprehensive options for weight loss and choices for a healthy lifestyle – offering all the services needed for success under one roof.
“Southern Regional is excited to bring this center to the southern crescent communities and beyond offering them a comprehensive program focused on becoming healthier and more fit,” explains Charlotte W. Dupré, President and CEO at Southern Regional Medical Center. “We understand the struggles with weight that many of us go through; that’s why our program focuses on an individualized approach for each patient’s journey and creates a collaborative partnership for success.”
The center focuses on providing patients with weight loss options and healthy lifestyle choices that guide them throughout their weight loss journey. Surgical weight loss options include: Laparoscopic Gastric Bypass Surgery; Laparoscopic Gastric Sleeve; Laparoscopic Gastric Bands; as well as Laparoscopic Revisional Surgery when appropriate.
Board-certified bariatric surgeon Dr. Karleena Tuggle is the Medical Director for the program. The entire team – physicians, nurses, patient advocate, dietitians, and exercise physiologists – work in partnership with each patient to ensure they are on the right track for continued success. They work collaboratively to guide each patient through the entire weight loss process – from testing and completing insurance forms to creating personalized nutritional plans and surgery when needed.
Dr. Tuggle earned her medical degree and completed her General Surgery Residency and Internship at Howard University College of Medicine in Washington, DC; and completed her Fellowship in Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery under Morehouse School of Medicine. She is an active Officer in the US Army Reserve and is a veteran of military war missions in Afghanistan and Kuwait.
