Mammograms and clinical breast exams are the best screening tools. Yearly mammograms should start at age 40 for most women, but women with a family history of breast cancer should talk to their doctors about being screened at a younger age.
Southern Regional offers mammography at two locations – Southern Regional Medical Center and Spivey Station.
Breast Health Imaging Services
Southern Regional is committed to providing the best in screening and diagnosis of breast cancer, including the following services.
- 2D/Screening Mammography (Computer-Aided Detection): This technology detects any subtle changes that might be missed with conventional mammography.
- 3D Mammography: This technology takes approximately 25 images of the breast from many angles in a 50-degree arc to provide layer by layer detail of dense breast tissue. Patients who request 3D mammography must have it done at the Southern Regional Medical Center site.
- Breast MRI: This non-invasive imaging technique diagnoses suspicious breast masses not clearly seen on a mammogram or an ultrasound.
